How mergers go wrong

Tuesday, March 10, 2009
What it would be like if combining 2 different things together?
For an example :
Imagine combine up a fish and a duck??
How could that be possible?
well..in design anything is possible...if you're willing to imagine it ^^

my merge ~ a penguin and a pig.
Difference : penguin lives at cold place while pig is the opposite side

Another example from http://unexpectnick.blogspot.com/

Analogy

Making the Strange Familiar
Analogies use something that has no apparent connection to the object to explain something about the object. The main use of analogies in daily conversation is to use something familiar to explain something complex.

Pain

A melting ice cream
is just like a bleeding heart
which beating in pain.

Chili
Love is like a chile,
some people might likes it a lot,
but,
some people tend to stay away from it.

Sport car

You can live a life like Ferrari,
if you can earn that much of money,
but if you earn as much as a Kancil cost,
who says you can't be as happy as driving a Ferrari?

Love or pain?

Love or pain?
If you loves her,
just go ahead,
don't just hiding there,
having pain in your heart
when you saw her with someone else.

Happiness

Happiness
happens everyday,
every minutes,
every seconds,
if you know how to appreciate them.

Love or life

Love and life
Which one will you choose?
Without love,
your life wouldn't be complete,
Without life,
love itself can't be supported,
so choose one please.

Man or woman
Man is like garbage,
They eay whatever you put in front
but they gives a lot of comment as well
they crap a lot of what they are able to do
but in the end
they still remains at the same spot
stinking

p/s : FCM is like hell to people who are lazy, But it's like playground to people who are willing to spend time working hard.

Practices of Juxtaposition

Step 1: Choose 3 pairs of number from (00 until 99)
e.g: 16, 34, 94

1. Flower
2. Lightning
3. Ice
4. Light
5. Fire
6. Duck
7. Dog
8. Oil
9. Leaf
0. Fly

0. Head
9. Rain
8. Wood
7. Tree
6. Spider
5. Root
4. Mountain
3. Wind
2. Rock
1. Water

16 = Flower & Spider
34 = Ice & Mountain
94 = Leaf & Mountain

I have choosen
02 = Fly rock
22 = Lighting rock
88 = Oil wood

Exercise 1
Create a sentence using the two random words
1. I feel like I can fly and carry a rock with me
2. The lighting broke the rock into pieces.
3. First, you have to add some oil in the pan then put in the wood to fry.

Exercise 2

I feel like I can fly and carry a rock with me

The lighting broke the rock into pieces.

First, you have to add some oil in the pan then put in the wood to fry.

Exercise 3
Create a new word by combining the two words together.

Example;
Flowerspider
Icemountain
Leafmountain

Fly rock

Lighting rock

Oil wood

p/s : so weird~ and yet so new~

Juxtaposition

Juxtaposition

It’s refers to the stimulation of creativity in problem solving,
design or other creative pursuit by confronting two unrelated concepts or objects,
usually the goal or problem to be solved on the one hand and a randomly selected object or concept on the other.
*taken from slides*

As for me who is new to Juxtaposition this word..
i'm so surprised that Juztaposition actually helped a lot in designing~
Taking 2 unrelated things and made them become one..
In designs, we always wanted something that is different from others,
different from what we have been doing before,
and there are still so many posibilities out there that we might not think about.
Juxtaposition actually help us to think out of the box,
create wild and unique things~!!

Mind Mapping

Tuesday, February 24, 2009
Mind Mapping was said to be invented by Tony Buzan, the British popular psychology author. He claimed the idea was inspired by Alfred Korzybski's general semantics as popularized in science fiction novels, such as those of Robert A.Heinlein and A.E. van Vogt.
He has a teori that i'm totally agree with :
While 'traditional' outliners force readers to scan left to right and top to bottom, readers actually tend to scan the entire page in a non-liner fashion. He also uses popular assumptions about the cerebral hemispheres in order to promote the exclusive use of mind mapping over other forms of note making.

How??
- place a single word/text in the center. This is the main title of your mind map.
- make the word bigger than others to show that it's the subject.
- decide on the main categories of the subject before executing on mind map.
- try to have the different categories in different colors, to make it easier to identify.
- try to use drawings or images to make your mind map more interesting and personal.
- your mind map is consider done

reminder :
~ideal mind map should be shaped like the roots of a tree, branching out from a center.
~can repeat words or even interlink certain words.
~make your mind map neat and easily legible.

AIM :
- to create interest and to be able to access information easily.

Advantages :

- help trigger memories and greatly reduce the amount of note taking and assist in the understanding of the subject.
- images along side with word will again create interest for the mind map as well as assist in triggering a memory of the subject.

- will help to generate better ideas and greatly reduce the amount of stereotypes in the solution of a problem.

Some examples :

Excercise in class : Devil in Me

Mind map have remind me of our Alpha's year MDF subject lectured by Mr Che Mat.
He always pushed us to the limit for having a different and unique mind map everytime so that we can produced a better artwork. And as a result...we really did it! Some more after learning mind map, it's been making our process of designing easier. Until today, i'm still doing mind map before i start my artwork and even take notes in mind map form in lecture. It's more easier and faster...great for revision too~~

p/s : I've so many bad qualities~~ =.=

In class exercise :
Creating Image of public figure

Bill gates

My partner avatar

This is what i came out with after asking him few questions

My partner name is Foo Pin Boon
1. What is your hobby ? Sleeping
2. What do you enjoy the most? playing
3. What color you like the most? Blue
4. What do you dislike ? Assignments
5. What will you do at weekends? Nothing..sleeping
6. Use a word to describe youself. Lazy

After the questions, i think frog suits him the best because frogs usually just stay at his own place waiting for food. Frogs is playful as well sometimes hopping here and there.
This is my avatar

p/s : I learnt that everyone sees people in different view. I think that's the creativity in each person.
